Home Improvement Tips

When I was working for one of the bathroom suppliers Northern Ireland has to offer, I learned a lot about how to carry out demolition projects.

Aged tiling and paving that are durably laid can be used as a solid base for a new installation. On the other hand, carpeting and laminates, and basically any flooring that is not thoroughly fixed tight must be lifted before anyone lays a new one.

A standard spade is an excellent tool for demolishing a floor covering such as vinyl or lino, when the adhesive is not bonding well. Its shank has an acute edge that you should be able to push below the surface (sharpen it if necessary) and the extensive shaft permits a lot of levering for loosening the bond. For a large area, hire a powered chipping gun.

Old-quarry tiles are complex to dislodge, and may only unearth an unsuitable under floor beneath. It is in all probability best to let them be where they are. If a couple of slates become broken or are missing, take away broken tiles with a crow bar and club hammer, wearing eye protection. After this, displace the tiles with different tiles, or pack gaps with sand and concrete.

If a quarry tiled floor is in a very distressing way, remove gravely damaged and with crumbling patches, wash perfectly, pack deeper indents with gravel and concrete, and then spread a cement mixture to the entire floor. This will probably leave a robust smooth foundation for laying your choice of finished flooring surface.
